Bend seeks citizens to help shape ‘central Westside’ plan
The city of Bend is beginning a Land Use and Transportation Plan for the Central Westside of Bend in anticipation of growth, and seeking applicants for a citizen advisory panel to help guide its course.
“The plan is a fresh look at the future of land use and transportation,” the city said in Wednesday’s announcement. “It will include the community’s visions for student housing, parking, traffic, transportation systems and more.”
The city will appoint a Public Advisory Committee (PAC) to help shape the plan. The PAC is charged with providing recommendations to city staff and the consultant team as they develop transportation and land use strategies to enhance west Bend neighborhoods, acting as a liaison between the project leaders and community members and providing advice on public outreach.
The PAC will also review the final recommendations that will guide the future of the central Westside of Bend.
The PAC will meet about eight times over a 12- to 18-month period. In addition to PAC meetings, members will be asked to participate in several public meetings and to be an ambassador for the project by providing information, as appropriate, to any interest groups that they represent.
The city is “looking for a wide range of collaborative, solution-oriented participants to serve on this approximately 20-person committee. Participation is open to all Bend residents.”
To ensure that the PAC includes a full range of interests, the city will seek to identify members that include:
Residents of stakeholder neighborhood associations (River West, Old Bend, Century West and Southern Crossing)
People who live, work, play, attend school, shop or travel through Central West Bend
Affordable housing advocates
Business and property owners
Bicyclists and pedestrians
Students (high school and college)
Seniors
Transit users
Building and development community
People with a passion for the future of the Central Westside of Bend
