Candlelighters holds Facebook Scavenger Hunt

In honor of September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a local non-profit organization, Candlelighters For Children With Cancer of Central Oregon, has taken social media to a new level to raise awareness for local families affected by childhood cancer. A Facebook Scavenger Hunt. That’s right! A Scavenger Hunt that requires a ‘Selfie’ uploaded to Facebook to be entered to win.

Childhood cancer is not something anyone really wants to deal with, including the families that have no other choice. “There are many families fighting childhood cancer right here in Central Oregon and because of low immune systems, higher risk of injury, and simply just not feeling well, these families often feel isolated and disconnected from the community while quarantined to their homes. That’s why it is up to us to raise the awareness! It is a way we can help!”

Candlelighters of Central Oregon has come up with a fun way to do just that! There are 24 posters up in Central Oregon in 9 different towns! “The businesses were so excited to participate and didn’t even bat an eye at donating a minimum of $20 value price or gift card for the winner. Some businesses even doubled or more just to encourage the community to get involved.”

The community is encouraged to go ‘Like’ Central Oregon Candlelighters on Facebook, as they are posting both morning and night tips to help find the posters. While the hunt is huge, the time is limited. “We really just wanted to end Childhood Cancer Awareness Month reminding the community how much they really can do and how grateful our families are when they do, so we are having a blast in honor of our little heroes!”

To be entered to win, all ‘selfies’ must be uploaded by September 30 th at midnight. The drawing will be held on October 1 st , 2014. There will be a drawing for each location, so there will be 24 winners. The first uploads per poster will be entered twice into the drawing.
