Bend police investigating downtown fight

KTVZ

Bend police released some details Monday about an alcohol-fueled weekend altercation downtown involving a California police sergeant who reportedly displayed a handgun during the dispute.

But officers in the continuing investigation said no shots were fired, only minor injuries occurred and they are still sorting through conflicting witness statements, doing interviews and reviewing video evidence.

Police were called shortly after midnight Saturday to a reported weapons offense near Wells Fargo Bank on Wall Sreet, said Lt. Nick Parker. Initial 911 calls indicated a man claiming to be a police officer had displayed a handgun during a dispute, he added.

Parker said officers contacted and interviewed several people involved in the dispute, as well as numerous witnesses, including Michael Kent Tribble, 43, who Parker said is employed as a Vallejo Police Department sergeant.

A dispute allegedly began inside the Summit Saloon and Stage involving five men – two from Bend, one from Redmond, Tribble and another Californian, Parker said.

Two men left the bar for a period of 45 minutes to two hours, and the other three then left as well and encountered the first pair near the bank, and a fight ensued.

“Tribble displayed a handgun at some point during the dispute,” Parker said in a news release, adding that Tribble and two other men sustained minor injuries, though none sought medical attention.

“Intoxicants were involved” in the altercation, Parker said.

“There were contradictory and/or conflicting statements during the initial investigation,” the lieutenant said. “Investigators continue to conduct interviews and review video evidence.”
