KTVZ

Bend-La Pine Schools is honoring its nationally recognized school lunch program during the week of Oct. 13-17, which is National School Lunch Week. In conjunction the district is offering new menu items from local sources and hosting a fun coloring contest, with winners receiving pumpkins.

“This is a fun way to celebrate all the work our team puts in creating made-from-scratch meals from fresh, local ingredients,” said Director of Nutrition Services Terry Cashman.

To enter the coloring contest, students must fill in the creative coloring sheet “Celebrating Our Local Harvest,” which can be picked up in school cafeterias or printed out and turned in to schools. Entries are due Oct. 13. The school cafeterias will display all of the entries.

In addition to the coloring contest, Bend-La Pine Schools will also offer new menu items featuring shrimp and fish harvested from Oregon and peaches from Kimberly Orchards. Menus for the full month can be found at www.bend.k12.or.us/nutrition
