Sunriver-Lava paved path closing this week

KTVZ

The Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District on the Deschutes National Forest is temporarily closing sections of the Sun-Lava paved path to chip and remove wood piles this week.

Woody debris from the construction of the path in addition to a buildup of firewood slash will be removed by Forest Service personnel and equipment through Friday.

The closure began at the entrance of the paved path at Lava Lands Visitor Center on Monday and will finish at Sunriver’s Circle 7 on Friday.

As work is completed, sections of the path will reopen and signs will be posted at the beginning and end of each section to ensure the public is made aware of the closure areas. The closures will range in length from of a mile up to 3 miles at a time.

Visitors can use alternate routes in the area like the Deschutes River and Black Rock Trails for access between Sunriver, Benham Day Use area and Lava Lands. However, unlike the paved path, these alternate routes may not be suitable for some trail traffic like strollers, wheelchairs, rollerblades and non-mountain bicycles.
