Caldera chooses artists in residence

Caldera is pleased to announce the artists chosen for its 2015 Artists in Residence (AiR) program.

This year, two cabins have been added to Caldera’s residency program, allowing for an increase to twenty-one artists (from fifteen artists in 2014) who will be granted one-month stays at Caldera’s beautiful Arts Center near Sisters. This year’s applications increased by 56% and made the 2015 selection highly competitive.

Congratulations to all our selected 2015 AiR and thank you to all the artists who applied.

Visual Artists– Kaila Farrell Smith, Portland, OR; Sonja Dahl, Oakland, CA; Kyle Browne, Jamaica Plains, MA; Diane Cook, Portland, OR; John Whitten, Portland, OR; Mandy Greer, Seattle, WA;Horatio Law, Portland, OR; Daniela Molnar, Portland, OR; Allison Walsh, New Haven, CT; and Samantha Mitchell, Philadelphia, PA.

January through March, Caldera Artists in Residence are immersed in their artistic projects. Along with spending time developing individual works, AiR offer workshops and presentations to Caldera middle and high school students. They also present their work to the public in a free Open Studios series held thelast Saturdayof each month of residency. 2015 Open Studios dates are:January 31,February 28, andMarch 28.

Applications for the 2016 AiR session will be open in earlyJanuary 2015

Established in 1996 by Dan Wieden, co-founder of the Portland, Oregon-based international ad agency Wieden+Kennedy, Caldera is a nonprofit arts organization that supports underserved youth through long-term mentoring and arts learning, as well as provides fully subsidized residencies to professional artists.Caldera is a catalyst for the transformation of underserved youth through innovative, year-round art and environmental programs.
