Three llamas found east of Madras; owners sought

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the U.S. Forest Service in trying to find the owner of three llamas found on the Crooked River National Grasslands ast of Madras.

The llamas were found Tuesday about eight miles east of Madras off Grizzly Road.

It’s not known at this time if the llamas were abandoned or if they had wandered off from their home, said Capt. Marc Heckathorn.

For now, the animals are being cared for by the nonprofit group Mustangs to the Rescue and are being examined by veterinarians, as it appears they have been on their own for some time, Heckathorn said.

The llamas are described as being two adult females and one adult male. Two are brown and white, while the third is all black.

Neither agency is aware of any missing llamas, and efforts to locate the owners thus far have failed, Heckathorn said.

“This is why we are now looking to the community to help locate their owners,” he said in a news release.

If you recognize the llamas, you’re asked to contact Jefferson County dispatchers at 541-475-2201 or the sheriff’s office during business hours at 541-475-6520.
