Dense fog slips into C.O.; Redmond flights canceled
Dense fog pushed into the High Desert late Friday, cloaking the area’s roads in murky skies and forcing a dozen flight cancellations into or out of Redmond Airport.
“The clear skies around sunset today allowed temperatures to quickly cool off,” said NewsChannel 21 meteorologist Travis Knudsen.
“The combination (of) a quick cool-down and the high relative humidity spawned some fog across the High Desert. Foggy conditions, with visibility less than a quarter of a mile in some locations, will be with us through the overnight hours before clearing out early tomorrow morning with a wind shift.”
Motorists were urged to be cautious and prepared for quick changes in visibility.
By late Friday night, seven arrivals at RDM had been canceled and one diverted, while four departures had been scrubbed, including three for early Saturday, since planes that didn’t arrive are unavailable. You can track flight updates online.
Saturday is not likely to be a repeat, as winds will blow out any fog. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for much of the region from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., warning of south to southwest winds 20-35 mph with gusts 45-50 mph.
