A 45-year-old La Pine man was arrested and jailed for a time Saturday on felony hit-and-run charges, accused of striking and killing a 44-year-old La Pine woman on Highway 97 Friday evening, then running from the scene, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Investigators arrested Jerry Steven Hannu on a Class B felony charge of failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person, with a bail amount of $15,000, said sheriff’s Sgt. Vance Lawrence.

A jail officer said he was booked around 2:45 p.m. Saturday and was released from jail around 4:30 p.m., having met release criteria.

Shortly before 9 p.m., sheriff’s deputies, Oregon State Police, Sunriver police and La Pine fire medics were dispatched to Highway 97 near William Foss Road on the reported vehicle-pedestrian crash.

Angela Michelle Bartleson, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene, in front of the La Pine Inn Restaurant. Lawrence said Bartleson was struck by a northbound full-sized pickup driven by Hannu, who ran away before authorities arrived.

Hannu was contacted Saturday and arrested without incident, Lawrence said, adding that the investigation was continuing and no more information would be released.

Lawrence said both Bartleson and Hannu lived at the same address on Hawks Lair Road, but could not divulge further details due to the continued investigation.
