KTVZ

Applications for food baskets are now available until December 5 th at Rays Food Place-La Pine, Shop Smart-La Pine, and the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office La Pine Substation in the Deschutes County South County Services Building.

Applications must be returned no later than December 5 to be considered for a Christmas food basket.

Food will be distributed on Sunday, December 21 from 10 AM until 4 PM at the La Pine Events Center. You must pre-apply via application to qualify. The Association distributes food at Christmas to approximately 600 southern Deschutes County families in need of assistance.

The Christmas Baskets contain a turkey, potatoes, canned vegetables, pies, milk, bread, cranberries and other assorted food items.

The food items that are distributed to those in need are obtained through donations collected via the La Pine Schools, Sysco in conjunction with The Riverhouse in Bend, and many other community collection points. Food is also purchased using funds obtained through fundraisers conducted by the Christmas Basket Association and from generous donations from over 200 Bend, Sunriver and La Pine businesses. Without their continued and valued support, we would not be able to continue this community program.

The La Pine Christmas Basket Association has been in existence since 1990 and is a community based, non-profit organization registered with the State of Oregon.

The La Pine Christmas Basket Association is NOT affiliated with the Oregon Department of Human Services. Only applications obtained from Rays Food Place, Shop Smart or the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office will be accepted.
