Women veterans urged to register for memorial

KTVZ

The Bend Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution encourages all female veterans to register with the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, as part of the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery.

As of 2013, the state of Oregon had 28,237 women veterans, with only 3,697 registered at the memorial.

Over 2.5 million women have served in our nation’s armed forces, with about 13% of them registered by themselves, family, or friends.

If you are a woman who served in, or with, the U.S. armed forces at any time, are currently serving, or know of a woman past or present that you would like to register, please visit www.womensmemorial.org to record your service or download a printed form. It costs nothing to register.

The Women in Military Service For America Memorial Foundation maintains a world-class archive of documents, artifacts and memorabilia related to women’s service in defense of our nation; conducts a world-wide education program for children and adults; operates a speakers bureau; and hosts a variety of seminars, programs, and activities at the Memorial.

If you need a printed form, you can contact Bend Chapter NSDAR at mmegentry@gmail.com to have a copy mailed to you.
