Bend DUII hit-and-run crash triggers charges, blackout
A 20-year-old Bend woman faces DUII and hit-and-run charges after crashing a pickup into and damaging a power pole in southeast Bend early Sunday, triggering a blackout, then fled the scene on foot, police said.
The crash and fallen lines knocked out power to more than 850 Pacific Power customers for at least 90 minutes, according to a utility spokesman.
Police responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. to the reported crash on Reed Market Road at Sixth Street, said Sgt. Brian Beekman.
An investigation found Lorissa Olivia Quinn had crashed a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck into the power pole and walked away from the scene, Beekman said. She was unhurt and apprehended a short distance away.
Quinn was arrested, by citation on DUII and hit-and-run charges but released to a responsible third party and not booked into the jail, officers said.
The power outage affected 855 customers, Pacific Power spokesman Ry Schwark said. They managed to isolate the pole, and most had power restored shortly before 3 a.m. It took until just after 8 a.m. for the last five customers to have their service restored, Schwark added.
Bend police were assisted at the crash scene by Oregon State Police and Bend fire crews, Beekman added.
