Two killed in Klamath Falls pickup crash

Two people were killed and a third injured Sunday morning when a pickup left state Highway 140 East (the South Side Bypass) in Klamath Falls, struck a lamp post and sign, then rolled several times into a pasture, Oregon State Police reported.

The crash was reported to OSP around 7:40 a.m. near milepost 3 at Highway 140 and Washburn Road, said OSP Lt. Josh Brooks.

Troopers said a red Ford Ranger pickup was heading west when it left the north side of the roadway, colliding with a road side lamp post and highway sign, then rolled several times into an adjacent pasture.

Two of the pickup’s three occupants, Garrett Zimmer, 22 of Hermiston, and Marri Young-Wellbaum, 26, of Eagle Point, were thrown from the pickup and died at the scene, Brooks said.

The third person, Guage Gray, 22, of Klamath Falls, was taken to Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls with what troopers said were non-life-threatening injuries.

“Speed, alcohol and icy road conditions are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash,” Brooks wrote, adding that “none of the occupants in the vehicle were wearing safety restraints.”

No other details were released, pending further investigation.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Klamath County Fire District #1, and the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office.
