Input sought on Mirror Pond concept plan
It’s been just over a month since the Mirror Pond Ad Hoc committee first introduced the Mirror Pond and Downtown Redevelopment concept to address the future of Mirror Pond.
Since then, there have been several community meetings and nearly 390 people have completed the online questionnaire on the concept.
With the public input period closing on Saturday, January 31st, the committee is
reminding citizens of opportunities to learn more and offer feedback. One way to give input is to attend one of the following community meetings:
–Wednesday, January 7th at Sky View Middle School, 63555 NE 18th St
5:30 to 7:00 pm
–Tuesday, January 13th at Oxford Hotel, 10 NW Minnesota Ave.
6:00 to 7:30 pm.
The meetings will include a brief presentation followed by a question-and-answer period.
Another way to give input is to visit the Mirror Pond website at mirrorpondbend.com to read about the project, view images and offer feedback via a short on-line questionnaire.
“The upcoming meetings are perfect for people to gain a better understanding of how the concept addresses a wide range of the community’s interests as well as for them to ask specific questions,” stated Don Horton, Bend Park and Recreation District Executive Director and Ad Hoc committee member.
“We encourage people to participate. To help determine the best option for Mirror Pond’s future, the committee needs citizen feedback,” stated Horton.
In 2012, local leaders launched an effort to identify community values associated
with Mirror Pond. Since then, several scenarios regarding the pond’s future have been offered for public comment. The Ad Hoc committee explored several alternative solutions and then presented the Mirror Pond and Downtown Redevelopment Concept in late November.
Should the concept be well-received by the community, an independent commission would be formed to govern the redevelopment plan.
