Bend Fred Meyer raises funds to helps kids with cancer, families

A local organization, Candlelighters For Children With Cancer, of Central Oregon, are the thrilled recipients of a fundraiser by a local Fred Meyer store. Fred Meyer of Bend raised $5000 for the local organization and has expressed just as much excitement to be able to help their community.

Candlelighters For Children With Cancer helps kids battling cancer here in Central Oregon every day. What is special about Candlelighters, is that they also help the families.

Kids don’t go through cancer alone. It affects the entire family, including siblings. Often, parents are forced to choose between going to work, and spending time with their ill child. It puts a lot of stress on the whole family.

“That’s why we focus on emergency assistance as well as planning events throughout the year where families can come together with other families who understand what they are going through,” the group said in a statement. ” It’s all about support and making memories. We are beyond words of gratitude for what Bend Fred Meyer has done for us. It’s just amazing!”

All of the funds raised in Central Oregon are kept for use toward Central Oregon families. Central Oregon Candlelighters For Children With Cancer is solely run by volunteers who are passionate about the cause, raising awareness and supporting Central Oregon.

“Every penny of this donation will stay right here with our local families. It has been difficult competing for funds as there are just so many wonderful causes out there. I can’t even tell you how huge this is for us. We are so very grateful,” the group said.
