Air Force to sponsor Bend-Mtn. View rivlary game
The United States Air Force is scheduled to sponsor a major high school rivalry basketball game between the Bend Lava Bears and the Mountain View Cougars. The first annual “Air Force Invitational” is set to take place on Friday, February 6 th at 6:45 pm at the Bend High School gym.
The winner will take home the coveted Air Force Invitational trophy to proudly display and will hold the title for the year. Distinguished guests that will be in attendance are the commander of the Air Force Recruiting Service for the Pacific Northwest and the Superintendent of the Air Force Recruiting Service for the Pacific Northwest.
The Air Force Invitational is an Air Force-sponsored event that is geared toward showing support to the local community in which it serves.
High school rivalries are always an exciting, sometimes pivotal game within each school’s schedule.
Rather than it being just a typical game, The Air Force Invitational brings out a new meaning and competitive spirit to those involved. Leading up to the event, a series of activities and conversations are set in place to build up the hype surrounding the game. Just before the start of the game, the national anthem is sung and the colors are posted by an Air Force Honor Guard Team.
After the game, The Air Force Invitational trophy is presented to the winning team, as well as an MVP award for one player from each team. Each player from each team receives Air Force Invitational gear in appreciation for their participation.
