Bend Neighborhood Assn. community forum set

The Neighborhood Association Round Table and Orchard District Neighborhood Association have organized a “Bend Area Neighborhoods Advance,” a community forum for Bend residents to learn about Neighborhood Associations and the benefit they provide to the community.

This free event is sponsored by the Bend Area Neighborhoods, is open to the public and children are welcome. Refreshments, appetizers and Wi-Fi will be provided.

The forum will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, at 555 NE 15th Street, Municipal Court Room at the Bend Police Department.

Presenters will offer information on how to support community endeavors, from a local Parent Teacher Organization to the City Council.

Each segment of the agenda described below is expected to take about one hour, with time between segments to meet presenters and members of other neighborhood associations. Guests can attend all three segments or choose individual segments based on interest.

Segment 1: Neighborhood Associations, Purpose and Best Practices
Presenter: Eric King, Bend City Manager

Discussion on the purpose and best practices of Neighborhood Associations, including: communications with City officials and community leaders; meaningful ways to engage and include the community; lessons learned from other neighborhood associations; recruiting and maintaining members and more.

Segment 2: Board Basics 101

Presenter: Bill Buchanan, Schmid, Malone & Buchanan
Discussion on what makes a successful board, responsibilities associated with serving on boards and how non-profits work.

Segment 3: Communications

Presenters: Multiple Neighborhood Association leaders

This segment will focus on Neighborhood Association communications: How to operate and update web sites, email communications best practices, Survey Monkey and other programs, Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, Nextdoor, Neighborhood Association forum website, social media and more.
