‘100+ Women Who Care’ give $25K to Disability Network
At noon on Friday , 100+ Women Who Care of Central Oregonpresented a check for $25,300 to the Central Oregon Disability Support Network.
“This amazing and unexpected donation from100+ Women Who Carewill allow us to turn our dream into a reality,” says Stephanie Utzman, COCSN Program Director.
Recently, Blue Fish Dental donated the use of a vacant building in Redmond. Utzman says, “With this money we will be able to perform the zone change and building improvements required to occupy the building.
“Once open, we estimate being able to serve up to 2000 children and their families residing in Redmond and surrounding communities, includingWarm Springs, Culver, Prineville, Sisters, Madras and John Day. Thank you so much for your support!”
The Central Oregon Disability Support Network, in collaboration with six other community organizations, has a dream of creating a center where families of children experiencing a disability can access all the supports and services their child and family needs.
On Monday , January 5th , nearly 200 women from all around Central Oregon gathered at the St. Charles Medical Center, each poised to write a $100 check to a worthy charity. Fifty members nominated charities. Out of those, three were selected at random and together100+ Women Who Careof Central Oregonelected to give their joint donation to The Central Oregon Disability Support Network.
This is the second donation by the Central Oregon chapter since its first meeting in September 2013 . Then the group voted to donate their money to the Bethlehem Inn in Bend.
Based on the100 Women Who Caremodel, one hundred women come together for one hour to raise $10,000 or more for a worthy cause. Membership to the Central Oregon chapter has grown to more than 250, with more women on a waiting list . After only two meetings the Central Oregon chapter is one of the largest in the country.
Money raised by100+ Women Who Careof Central Oregonstays local. To be eligible a non-profit must serve Deschutes, Crook or Jefferson counties.
100+ Women Who Care of Central Oregonmeet four times a year. They meet next on May 12 at the High Desert Museum. Registration begins at 5:30, the meeting begins at 6:30 and ends promptly at 7:30.
