Language arts curriculum open house set

KTVZ

Parents and community members are invited to view and provide feedback on curriculum materials being considered for English Language Arts in grades kindergarten to fifth grade.

The materials will be on display Friday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 230 of the Education Center, 520 NW Wall St., Bend. Visitors can provide comments, ask questions and share feedback about the curriculum options.

The committee of more than 30 educators has narrowed the selection down to two curriculum choices, called Journeys or Wonders. Individuals can learn more about the options through these links: Journeys: http://forms.hmhco.com/lp/oregon-video-caravan or Wonders: https://vimeo.com/80306464

The committee plans to make a recommendation to the Bend-La Pine Schools’ Board of Directors in April, with plans for the new curriculum to be in place for the start of the 2015-16 school year.

Both choices are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and both choices will offer digital options for reading material.

Questions or comments about the curriculum can also be submitted to Julie Walker, julie.walker@bend.k12.or.us.
