Bend XC ski racer Hyde wins U.S. skate sprint title

The Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation is proud to announce that Emily Hyde, who cross-country ski races for MBSEF, won the U20 National Championship Skate Sprint Race on Monday at the 2015 XC Junior Nationals at the Auburn Ski Club Training Center in Northern California.

Emily has trained with MBSEF since 2005 starting in the Stevenson Youth Program and currently attends Summit High School.

After qualifying 9 th , Hyde cruised through the quarter finals and the semifinals before a strong come-from-behind and commanding win in the “A” final.

Hyde’s previous best Junior National result was a 7 th last year in Stowe, Vermont. She finished 11 th overall this past January at the US World Junior Championships tryouts in Houghton Michigan. Hyde is off to ski for NCAA Division 1 Dartmouth College this fall.

A few minutes before Hyde’s victory Casey Shannon, also of MBSEF and Summit High School, finished 11 th in the Men’s U20 skate sprint. Shannon qualified 19 th , finished second in his quarterfinal heat, fourth in his semifinal heat and 5 th in the “B” final.

Other MBSEF results included Skyler Kenna 31 st in the U20 Men’s, Zeb Millslagle 54 th in the U18 Men, and Olivia Moehl 66th in the U18 girls.

Also from Bend, Sam Biskup, who races for the Bend Endurance Academy, won the Sprint race in the male division. Both Emily and Sam represented the Pacific Northwest Ski Racing Division at XC Junior Nationals.
