Forest restoration work begins west of Bend

KTVZ

Contractors on Wednesday began forest health restoration work in an area south of the Cascade Lakes Highway, about 10 miles west of Bend.

On Monday, the Storm King bike trail will be temporarily closed for approximately four days to accommodate the work and provide for public safety.

The work is part of the West Bend large landscape restoration project.

Contractors will begin by grinding up brush and small trees (mastication) in the area. The grinding or mastication work will take three to four days.

Following the mastication of the brush and small trees, the contractor, Scott Logging, will begin thinning and timber sale activities in the area.

Storm King Trail from the #34 intersection with Tiddly Winks and Funner to the end at the 41 Road will be closed from Monday to Friday from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The closure will begin on Monday, March 16 and is expected to be in place through Friday, March 20. The trails will be open and safe to ride after 4 p.m. and all day on Saturday and Sunday.
