Bend motorcyclist seriously hurt in SUV collision
A 28-year-old Bend motorcyclist was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when he collided with an SUV whose driver had pulled out onto Skyliners Road in front of him, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies were dispatched around 3:40 p.m. to the collision at Northwest Crosby Drive and Skyliners Road on Bend’s Westside, said sheriff’s Sgt. William Bailey.
An investigation found that Duncan Brewer was riding his black 2006 Harley Davidson heading west on Skyliners. A gray 2007 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Colleen Maguire, 55, also of Bend, was stopped at a stop sign on Crosby Drive at Skyliners, facing south.
Bailey said Maguire made a left-hand turn in front of Brewer. The motorcyclist tried to avoid the collision with an evasive maneuver into the oncoming lane but could not avoid being struck by the SUV.
Brewer, who was wearing a helmet, was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Bend with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” Bailey said. A nursing supervisor said he was in good condition Thursday night after surgery.
No citations have been issued, but the crash remains under investigation, Bailey said, adding that speed and alcohol were determined to not be contributing factors.
Bend police assisted at the crash scene.
