Car chased by Redmond PD crashes, driver flees

KTVZ

A driver refused to pull over for a traffic stop in southwest Redmond early Monday morning, sparking a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash east of town and the man eluding officers searching the area.

Around 1:25 a.m., a Redmond officer tried to stop a green 1995 Eagle Talon for a traffic violation (improper left turn) near Southwest Deschutes Avenue and Rimrock Way, said Sgt. Bob Duff.

The driver headed east out of the city, at speeds that hit about 80 mph, into the area of Northeast 17 th Street and Negus Way, where it slid off the road and into a power pole’s guy wire, Duff said.

The driver ran away and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers helped set up a perimeter. Redmond PD K-9 “Breck” and his partner tried to track the suspect, but he could not be found, Duff said.

The driver was described as a white male in his 20s wearing a black sweatshirt, white T-shirt, black hat and light-colored jeans.

Duff said police have been unable to locate the owner of the car. He said anyone with information on who owns the car is urged to call Redmond police at 541-693-6911.
