Family Kitchen welcomes new board member

KTVZ

Margi Robberson joined the Board of Trustees for Family Kitchen at their meeting in January.

Robberson brings experience volunteering for local programs that work to address the issue of food insecurity in Central Oregon. She volunteers at the Nativity Lutheran Church Food Pantry and through Nativity’s service team at the Bethlehem Inn.

Her most recent board experience was serving for four years on the board for The Nature of Words. It was a wonderful match for this retired English and Writing teacher (Redmond High School, the International School of the Cascades and COCC).

Yet, “In the past two years, I have become interested in and involved in the problem of hunger in our community. I plan to help Family Kitchen in any way that I am needed”, says Robberson. “I want to know more about how the Bend community can reach all who are hungry and to understand how different organizations approach this issue.”

The volunteers and staff at Family Kitchen served 58,882 meals in 2014. To date in 2015, there has been an 8% increase in meals served as compared to the same period in 2014. Higher food costs, higher rents, lack of available housing – all have had a negative effect on individuals and families in Central Oregon. As always, anyone who walks in our doors during mealtimes will be fed a nutritious meal. No questions. No hassles.

Founded in 1986, Family Kitchen continues to be a safe, welcoming refuge for those who need a meal. Our mission: to serve anyone who needs a nutritious meal in a safe and caring environment. Meals are served Monday through Saturday at “the Red Door” at Trinity Episcopal Church, 231 NW Idaho Avenue, Bend. Donations are accepted online at www.FamilyKitchen.org or via mail to Family Kitchen, 469 NW Wall Street, Bend, OR 97701.
