Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend set 2nd summer site
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend are pleased to announce a second summer site at Saint Francis of Assisi School. This location will enable the Boys & Girls Clubs to serve an additional 175 children in Bend.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend works to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. In fulfilling its mission, each summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend offers a full-service summer program for Bend’s most vulnerable families.
During the summer of 2014, the Clubs served more than 200 children and youth (ages 6-18) each day. During that time, these children benefitted from programming in academic success, healthy lifestyles, and leadership and community service learning programs. That same year, the Clubs had an additional 200 children on a waiting list due to facility capacity limitations.
“With very few summer programs available to low-income families, we were committed to finding a way to serve these kids and families in our community,” says Derek Beauvais, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend.
By operating a second summer site at Saint Francis of Assisi School, located on 27th Street, an additional 175 children can participate in this full-service summer program – covering most, if not all, of the 2014 waiting list.
The program will provide more than 50+ hours of structured programming, guidance and mentorship to children each week, and will run Monday – Friday, June 29 – August 28. All youth, youth ages 6 (and entering 1st grade) through 18, are welcome to register.
Summer registration for both locations will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 8:00 am at the Downtown Bend Club. Program and registration details are available on the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend website: www.bgcbend.org
