Redmond named as a top place to retire

Redmond has been selected as a top retirement destination by Where to Retire, a magazine geared toward helping people with retirement relocation decisions.

The town is profiled in the May/June issue, available nationwide on April 14.

Where to Retire Editor Annette Fuller said Redmond possesses qualities important to today’s retirees.

“With more than 320 sunny days each year, Redmond provides retirees with ample opportunities to enjoy the outdoors,” Fuller said in a news release sent Tuesday.

“Horseback riding and hiking at nearby state parks or fly fishing the Crooked River are made even more enjoyable by the mountainous backdrop of the Cascade Range.

“Downtown Redmond has seen a recent rejuvenation, with added landscaping, public art displays, a park and more pedestrian-friendly crossings. Additional funds are going toward a civic center and the restoration of two downtown landmarks,” Fuller said.

Each year, 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns to retire. Generally, relocating retirees are healthier, better educated and more affluent than those who choose to not relocate. They bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns.

Nationally, two dozen states and hundreds of towns seek to attract retirees as a source of economic development.
