Oregon DMV office wait times now online
Oregon DMV is posting approximate wait times for the 37 of its 60 field offices equipped with automated wait-time systems. This allows customers to pick an office based on the wait time. It’s especially helpful for those who live in areas with more than one DMV office nearby.
Wait times are posted on the web page for each of the 37 specific field offices at OregonDMV.com. A single page lists all 37 offices’ times together: http://dmv.odot.state.or.us/cf/waittime/index.cfm?action=all_office_wait_times
Data for each office begins to appear after 8 a.m. weekdays as customers take numbers and receive services. Times are updated throughout the business day. Most DMV offices are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Wednesdays when they open at 9 a.m. Hours vary across the state, and many smaller offices close for lunch.
“We think this information is useful for anyone about to visit to a DMV office, especially in areas where two or more offices are nearby,” Administrator Tom McClellan said. “Or you might see that your local office has a long wait time and choose to check back on another day.”
DMV encourages you to visit www.OregonDMV.com before planning a visit. You might be able to do your transaction online or by downloading a form and using the mail.
If you need to come to a DMV office in person, you may want to check OregonDMV.com anyway to verify business hours and current office locations, as well as wait times.
“The online wait times will be particularly useful in the Portland area, where DMV has moved three busy offices in just the past three months,” McClellan said. “The North Portland and Gresham offices are now in larger locations, and the Southeast Portland office is operating inside Mall 205 while we remodel and expand its permanent home on S.E. Powell Boulevard.”
So if you live on the east side of the Portland Metro Area and need to visit a DMV, you may wish to check OregonDMV.com for the current address of the nearest office, as well as the wait time.
Recent office moves included:
* The North Portland office reopened March 30 after a weeklong closure to move to its new, larger home at 1186 N. Hayden Meadows Drive in the Delta Park Center. This office had been at its previous address for over 30 years
* The Gresham office moved in late February to 1519 N.E. 181st Ave., Portland, off Interstate 84. It moved after 16 years at its previous location.
* Earlier in February, DMV opened an office in Mall 205 next to Target while the ODOT-owned building at S.E. Powell Blvd. closed for the first major expansion and remodeling project in over 30 years. DMV plans to reopen the S.E. Powell office this year.
All these moves are efforts to improve service by adding lobby and parking space for customers, adding amenities within the lobbies, and improving work space for employees.
