Milk tanker truck crashes, spills on Hwy. 97

KTVZ

A hazardous materials team was called out to clean up a spill early Sunday morning after a milk tanker truck overturned on Highway 97 north of Madras, Oregon State Police said.

Initial information indicated the driver, Brent Braun, 61, of Selah, Wash., “may have experienced some kind of medical event” and left the roadway near milepost 73, said OSP Lt. Josh Brooks.

The tanker truck rolled over on the highway, blocking it. Haz-mat crews from Prineville responded to assist with the spill and were able to prevent any further leaks, Brooks said.

Braun was taken by ambulance to St. Charles Madras, where he was listed in fair condition later in the day, according to a nursing supervisor.

The highway was reopened by mid-morning, troopers said.
