A gunshot was fired during a family dispute east of Bend Sunday night, leading to a standoff and the surrender of 71-year-old man who now faces menacing and other charges, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. to a dispute in the 62500 block of Eagle Road, said sheriff’s Sgt. Aaron Harding.

Robert Steven Dundas reportedly had discharged one round from a handgun inside a shop during the dispute, Harding said. Two adult female family members were able to leave the home without incident.

Sheriff’s deputies, Oregon State Police troopers and Bend police surrounded the home and negotiated with Dundas, who eventually came out after about 40 minutes and was taken into custody without incident, Harding said.

Dundas was taken to St. Charles Medical Center for evaluation and was arrested by citation on charges of menacing and unlawful use of a firearm.
