Bend woman hurt in Crook County motorcycle crash
A Bend woman was in good condition Monday at St. Charles Bend, two days after crashing her motorcycle on Highway 27 in Crook County, officials said.
Deputies were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. Saturday to Highway 27 at milepost 7.6 on a report of an injury motorcycle crash, said sheriff’s Deputy Dan Smith.
Smith said deputies found a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle off the east side of the north-south highway, which connects Prineville to U.S. Highway 20 east of Bend.
An investigation found that the motorcycle had been northbound on the highway when it left the east side of the road after attempting to negotiate a curve. Smith said the motorcycle stopped abruptly in the soft dirt shoulder of the highway, throwing the rider.
Tammy Huber, 39, of Bend, sustained “moderate injuries” and was taken by ambulance to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville. She later was moved to St. Charles Bend, where a house supervisor said she was in good condition Monday.
Huber was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Smith said. The investigation is ongoing, though no citations have been issued, he added.
Oregon State Police assisted the sheriff’s office at the crash scene.
It was one of two injury crashes Crook County deputies responded to Saturday.
Two Portland-area residents escaped with minor injuries after their pickup truck left Juniper Canyon Road southeast of Prineville and crashed into a power pole, then rolled onto its side.
The driver was identified as Austin Siliang, 20, of Sandy, and the passenger as Mariah Jackson, 18, of Gresham.
Smith said their southbound Toyota Tacoma went off the west side of Southeast Juniper Canyon Road near Golden Eagle Drive and struck a power pole, causing it to roll onto its side.
The two occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were taken to Pioneer Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Smith added that no citations had been issued but the investigation was continuing.
