Bend hits busy construction season; weekly update begins

KTVZ

The city of Bend said Friday it is launching a new weekly roadwork report to help residents find the best ways to get around town during a busy summer road construction season.

There are many projects in progress this construction season – public and private, sewer and road work – and they can detour or delay your commute.

The city will issue the roadwork report to news outlets on Fridays. The weekly updates will also be posted under the “News” section on the City’s webpage: www.bendoregon.gov. To have reports emailed to you directly, sign up under the “general news” category at www.bendoregon.gov/enews.

Each summer, the city conducts pavement preservation and maintenance to make roads smoother. The program focuses on extending the lifespan of roadways and minimizing the costs of maintaining a viable road surface. More information about the 2015 Street Preservation and Maintenance Program can be found through: www.bendoregon.gov/streets.

The city is also providing much needed enhancements to its sewer collection system, and the Southeast Interceptor sewer pipes are generally buried underneath City streets. After sewer lines are installed, road surfaces are rebuilt. More about the sewer work: www.bendoregon.gov/SEI.

When a private developer must close a lane or a street for private development work, they acquire permits to do so through the City’s Private Development Engineering Department so that detours are considered in coordination with other projects and with public safety and emergency access in mind.

Some projects encountered by people driving and biking may be outside the city or under another jurisdiction. Here are more helpful links:
