Bend’s ATLAS Cider opens Old Mill location
ATLAS Cider in Bend opened just over two years ago. The cider company is up to six different flavors, and now all are available on tap in its new Old Mill District location.
“The one thing we really wanted to bring to Bend was a place where people could come and have a couple pints and hang out and really have a spot dedicated to cider,” ATLAS Cider co-owner Dan McCoy said Monday.
The new tasting room on Industrial Way offers ciders of its own, other local cider houses, local craft beer and a wide variety of specialty ciders from around the world.
“I think it’s really neat to share these ciders,” McCoy said. “Whether it’s Spain or France or the U.K., where drinking cider has always been a part of the tradition there. (or here) it’s just the beginning.”
And their new spot is located in one of the oldest buildings in Bend.
“We wanted an industrial feel, but we also wanted something that felt a little different than anywhere else in Bend,” ATLAS Cider co-owner Sam McCoy said. “We added kind of a modern, sleek feel, and we wanted to add in a little glamor as well.”
ATLAS Cider used some of the pallets from its production facility on Wilson Avenue for a wall at the new location. The McCoys found boxes from eBay with “Atlas” on them, and used those to decorate the wall.
“There’s everything from a dynamite company to a beverage company to an old Atlas brewing in Chicago,” Dan McCoy said. “And they all date back to the 1900s.”
“It was a blank canvas, so we just decided to run with it,” Sam McCoy said.
