Highway 20 reopens between Bend, Sisters after crash

KTVZ

A single-car crash into a power pole closed Highway 20 at Cloverdale Road between Bend and Sisters Wednesday afternoon resulted in no serious injuries but prompted detours in both directions for close to three hours and a power outage to hundreds for pole repairs, officials said.

The crash was reported shortly before 4 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 20 Fryrear Road, according to Deschutes County dispatchers.

The crash left the power pole damaged and lines hanging close to the ground. That resulted in ODOT detouring westbound traffic onto Fryrear Road and eastbound drivers onto Cloverdale Road.

Central Electric Cooperative officials said the crash knocked several power lines off the supporting cross-arm, letting them sag close to the ground.

On their Website, CEC initially said repairs would mean an outage of about two hours, starting around 6:30 p.m., for about 540 CEC members in the Plainview area.

Later, CEC said repairs began shortly after 6 p.m. and thanks to alternate switching, about 265 members were affected, roughly half of what was expected earlier. The co-op said power was restored shortly after 7 p.m.

ODOT reported the highway reopened before 7:30 p.m.
