Three arrested, fourth sought in NE Bend drug bust

Central Oregon drug agents followed a station wagon and arrested three Central Oregon residents Wednesday night in the parking lot of a northeast Bend apartment complex. A fourth suspect ran away minutes earlier, an official said Thursday night. Methamphetamine and heroin were found in the vehicle.

Detectives with the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team arrested Corey Wellman, 27, of Bend, and Redmond residents Michelle Winter, 24, and Andrea Brown, 29, around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Aspen Glen Apartments at 1801 NE Purcell Boulevard, said Lt. Ken Mannix.

The CODE Team detectives had developed information the people in the four-door Saab were trafficking narcotics and currently in possession of them, Mannix said. They spotted the vehicle and followed it to the parking lot and contacted the occupants there, with help from Bend police, and took them into custody.

They learned in their investigation that a fourth occupant, Richard Enquist, 35, of La Pine, had also been a passenger in the car but ran just before drug agents moved in, Mannix said. He added that Enquist’s whereabouts were unknown and he is wanted for questioning by police.

A search of the vehicle turned up user amounts of methamphetamine, dealer amounts of heroin, scales, packaging material and drug paraphernalia, Mannix said. He also said Wellman had “attempted to destroy his cell phone in an obvious effort to prevent its contents from being viewed by law enforcement.”

The three arrested were lodged in the Deschutes County Jail. Wellman was held on heroin possession, manufacturing and distribution charges, as well as tampering with evidence. He was held without bail on a parole violation charge.

Brown was held on $30,000 bail, charged with meth possession and conspiracy to distribute heroin. Winter was booked and later released on a meth possession charge.
