A 33-year-old Bend man faces DUII, reckless driving and other charges after a wild early-morning crash Saturday in which his pickup truck hit, then dragged a street light pole about three blocks, also hitting two parked cars, officials said.

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies responded around 1:20 a.m. to the reported hit-and-run crash in the area of Northwest 15th Street and Galveston Avenue, said Sgt. Jayson Janes. Dispatchers said the driver struck a pole and two cars parked on 15 th Street, he said.

The 1979 Ford pickup, driven by Stan Glover, dragged the pole until it crashed into another car and became stuck partially in a yard. Glover then got out and began walking away, Janes said.

Deputies arrived within minutes and stopped Glover as he was walking away, about two blocks from where the pickup was stuck.

Janes said an initial investigation found Glover had turned south onto 15 th Street from Galveston and hit the power pole, then struck a parked Volvo while dragging the pole. Glover continued south about three blocks, where he struck a parked Audi, which in turn struck another car parked in front of it.

At that point, the street light pole came off of Glover’s truck and was blocking 15 th Street, the sergeant said.

Glover was taken to St. Charles Bend for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries. He was cited and released at the hospital, also known as “arrest by citation,” on charges of DUII, reckless driving, failure to perform the duties of a driver (hit and run) and driving with a suspended license.

Glover’s car and one of the parked cars were towed from the scene, Janes said.

A Pacific Power crew responded to the scene and disconnected the live wire that had been broken off the pole and been pulled down the road. Pacific Power spokesman Ry Schwark said the toppling of the street light did not result in an outage to residents in the area.

Deputies also were assisted at the scene by the Bend Fire Department and Oregon State Police.
