Firefighters stop Terrebonne van fire from reaching house

KTVZ

Redmond fire crews called to a Terrebonne vehicle fire late Wednesday night found a van ablaze and stopped the flames from spreading to the adjacent home, where its owner was sleeping inside.

Crews were called to 8211 Fifth Street in Terrebonne at 11:39 p.m., said Fire Marshal Traci Cooper.

The arrived to find a work van filled with wood stains and tools fully involved, impinging on the building it was parked next to, Cooper said.

The 10 firefighters called to the scene were able to make a quick knockdown of the fire and stop it from extending to the building. There were no injuries, Cooper said.

The fire was sparked by oil-soaked rags left in the van, which spontaneously ignited, the fire marshal said, adding that a damage estimate was still being determined.

Redmond firefighters said the fire serves as a reminder to properly dispose of oily rags by placing them in a bucket of water in a well-ventilated area.

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies provided assistance at the scene.
