Wildfire east of Glide jumps lines, now 600 acres
The Cable Crossing Fire, five miles east of Glide near Highway 138E, jumped containment lines late Wednesday afternoon and more than doubled in size, officials said.
The fire near milepost 23 went over those lines around 5 p.m., officials said.
As aviation and ground resources moved to attack the new spot fire, a wind shift caused the fire to quickly grow out of control.
By Wednesday night, the fire was estimated at 500 acres and moving in a southeasterly direction. Officials said at present, no homes are threatened and no evacuations have been ordered.
By Thursday morning, the fire was estimated at 600 acres, with about 500 firefighters called in to work on the lines.
ODOT reported one lane of traffic open on the highway, controlled by flaggers and pilot cars, and warned drivers to expect delays and intermittent closures.
Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 3 (Incident Commander Smith) has been called in to manage the Cable Crossing Fire. ODF IMT 3 is due on the Cable Crossing Fire Thursday morning. An Incident Command Post will be established at the French Creek Ranch near Glide.
