Michael Estes, a Prineville native, has been hired by The Center Foundation as athletic trainer for Crook County High School.

Recognizing the need for an athletic trainer, funding was secured through donations from the community, Crook County High School athletic departments, the booster club, Good Bike Company and St. Charles.

In addition to working as the high school athletic trainer, Estes is also working at Rebound Physical Therapy in Prineville part-time.

The Center Foundation is the only non-profit in Central Oregon that is solely dedicated to providing sports medicine as a means to ensure that student athletes are safe, healthy and protected in sports and activities.

“I am excited to be returning home to improve the health and safety of student-athletes at Crook County High School, and being a part of a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing the community,” said Estes.

Estes earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Oregon State University in 2013, and went on to complete his master of science in athletic training at University of Oregon in June, 2015. His experience working with student athletes includes intercollegiate football and club sports at the University of Oregon, as well as Corvallis High School.

The Center Foundation has athletic trainers in Bend, La Pine and Sisters high schools, and is pleased to expand the program into Prineville. Athletic trainers are health care professionals that specialize in prevention, emergency care, rehabilitation, and management of sports related injuries, including concussions.

They work at the schools every day until practice or competition has ended. As part of The Center Foundation, they collaborate with The Center physicians, providing the highest quality sports medicine care to achieve healthy outcomes for student athletes.
