Benefit golf tourney raises $46,000
In its third year honoring the legacy of the Rude Rudy’s Golf Tournament, and its commitment to feeding the hungry in Central Oregon, Newport Avenue Market‘s Go Golf! Tournament participants hit the links at Broken Top Golf Club on Wednesday, July 22.
Successful in its objective, the event raised an astounding $46,158, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Hunger Prevention Coalition (HPC) of Central Oregon.
More than 150 community members and influential leaders from the grocery and retail industry dispersed around Broken Top’s beautiful, championship course, enjoying an afternoon of golf and fun. An awards ceremony and dinner directly followed the tournament where trophies were distributed and the honorary donation of proceeds raised from the event were presented to Robin Popp and Kasey Every of HPC.
Tournament winners include:
Tim Cecil – Men’s Open
Matt Scheeler – Men’s Handicap
Margie Irvin – Women’s Open
Charlene Mokle – Women’s Handicap
Go Golf! has evolved into one of the largest charitable golf events in the region, having raised and donated over $342,000 to local agencies focused on hunger prevention since it became a charitable tournament in 2007. Thanks to the generosity of this year’s Go Golf! participants and sponsors, HPC and its partner agencies will benefit from this funding to provide nutritious food for the hungry in the community.
“This year’s event could not have turned out any better – and I am continually amazed by the support we receive from our amazing sponsors, participants and volunteers,” states Lauren G.R. Johnson, Newport’s Leader of the Pack (vvvrrrooom!) and COO. “This tournament allows us to stay true to our family philosophy at Newport Avenue Market – no matter the person’s situation, everyone deserves a meal. There’s no better feeling than contributing to this worthy cause.”
The platinum sponsors this year included Broken Top Club, Budweiser, Kraft, Unified Grocers, Morgan Stanley-Jay Fain, Eberhard’s Dairy, United Salad, Mondelez International, Point Blank Distributing, and Newport Avenue Market.
