The International Federation of Fly Fishers is is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year in Bend. Hundreds of people from around the globe will make Central Oregon their home through the weekend.

The Wild Women of the Water will host many workshops throughout the International Fly Fishing Fair.

“I’ve organized 18 women as students, plus nine instructors,” Karen Kreft of the Wild Women of the Water said Tuesday. “They’re in different spots — today we’re at Tumalo State Park, we’re here, and we’re heading to the (Crooked) River.”

Tuesday ‘s workshop at Pine Nursery Park in Bend hosted women learning to perfect their cast before testing it out on big waters.

“Most men instructors say the women are so much better,” Kreft joked. “The women will listen, and they like the social aspect of it.”

Patty Lueken of Arkansas has been fly fishing for 10 years. She said one of her favorite parts of the International Fly Fishing Fair was enjoying the sights while fishing in Central Oregon waters.
