Community invited to 2 new Bend school dedications
With hundreds more students enrolling each year, Bend-La Pine Schools now have some room to grow. The district’s two newest schools, built using bond funds approved by voters in 2013, will open this fall.
Community members, neighbors, students, parents and school staff are invited to join the dedication celebrations for the two new schools: Pacific Crest Middle School in northwest Bend on Sept. 2 and Silver Rail Elementary School in southeast Bend on Sept. 3.
“We are thrilled to welcome members of our community to celebrate the opening of these two new schools,” said Superintendent Shay Mikalson. “Our students and staff are grateful for the support of local voters, who passed a 2013 school bond measure to fund these projects and more than 130 other safety and maintenance upgrades throughout our district.”
At each dedication ceremony, school and community officials will hold a ceremonial ribbon cutting and share a barbecue meal with community members. Those who attend the events will be able to meet staff members from the schools, tour the buildings, hear from local leaders about the projects and enjoy a complimentary barbecue dinner (supplies are limited).
“Bend-La Pine Schools has been growing by 200–300 new students each year for the last 15 years,” Mikalson said. “With enrollment continuing to grow, opening these two newschools will help balance enrollment and ease overcrowding at our Bend area elementary and middle schools. Without the addition of these new classrooms, many schools could have been more than 100 students over design capacity this fall.”

The new school is located at 3030 NW Elwood Lane, Bend, off of Northwest Skyliner Road near William E. Miller Elementary School.
