Bend’s Brookswood Blvd./Murphy Rd. roundabout opens early
Bend City Manager Eric King told city councilors late Wednesday night that the Brookswood Boulevard-Murphy Road roundabout is set to open Friday — but ODOT said it actually opened Thursday afternoon.
KIng had invited city councilors to an ice cream social marking the milestone Thursday at 4:45 p.m. at Brookswood Plaza.
Meanwhile, during recent construction of the roundabout, the nearby intersection of Brookswood Boulevard / Baker Road was converted to an interim 3-way stop to accommodate construction detour traffic.
The Deschutes County Road Department said Wednesday it has received positive feedback regarding traffic operations of the interim 3-way stop and will consider leaving it in place as the permanent traffic control for the intersection.
The Road Department will evaluate operations and conduct traffic counts for a two-week period after the Brookswood Boulevard / Murphy Road roundabout has been opened to traffic.
After the two-week period, the Road Department will determine if the 3-way stop will remain in place, or converted back to the existing stop controlled configuration on the Brookswood Boulevard leg of the intersection.
