La Pine boil-water advisory lifted

Authorities lifted a day-old boil-water advisory for the city of La Pine on Friday after tests showed no contamination. Meanwhile, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies sought public tips about an apparent crash into a fire hydrant that led to a water main break and the precautionary step.

The unreported crash Thursday hit a fire hydrant near the city’s water source, breaking the main and causing a leak that prompted precautionary advice for residents to conserve water and boil it before drinking or other uses.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Nathan Garibay, the county’s emergency services manager, said the boil-water advisory was lifted late Friday afternoon.

“Samples were taken around various parts of the city and showed no signs of contamination,” Garibay said, adding that the city “thanks water customers for their patience.”

Garibay said sheriff’s deputies are investigating the circumstances around how a fire hydrant off Finley Butte Road was damaged, possibly in a hit-and-run crash.

City Manager Rick Allen said Thursday repairs required turning off the system.

Water users were asked to conserve water and to boil it before drinking until officials confirmed no contamination.
