The Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, along with other Oregon DA offices, received and have acted upon a request to send victims’ assistance support to Douglas County in the aftermath ofThursday’s mass shooting at Umpqua Community College.

Two members of the Deschutes County Victims’ Assistance Program traveled to RoseburgThursdayafternoon and assisted in making nine preliminary death notifications to victims’ families. On Friday, they were providing support to victims and family members at the hospital in Roseburg.

“We will continue to support Douglas County in any way we can,” said District Attorney John Hummel. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this traumatic experience.”

The DA’s office’s Victims’ Assistance Program was established in 1994. The county’s five Victims’ Assistance Advocates help crime victims navigate the criminal justice system process and provide assistance that promotes establishing victim stabilization after crime occurs.
