Two people were taken to St. Charles Bend with minor injuries early Thursday after their pickup truck crossed the center line of Highway 97 and collided with an oncoming semi-truck north of La Pine, Oregon State Police reported.

Troopers, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and other emergency personnel responded around 4:40 a.m. to the reported crash on Highway 97 at State Recreation Road, near milepost 160, troopers said.

A preliminary investigation showed a maroon 2003 Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer driven by David Lee Hendricks, 51, of Idaho was heading north when a southbound white 2001 Ford F-350 pickup driven by Richard Moller Jr., 32, of Roseburg, crossed the center line, into the semi’s path, troopers said.

Moller and his passenger, William Henry Liles, 46, of Bend, were taken to St. Charles Bend, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released, officials said.

The highway was partially blocked for about two hours while emergency responders rendered first-aid and investigated the collision. OSP was assisted at the scene by sheriff’s deputies, ODOT and the La Pine Rural Fire District.
