Hartfield appointed to Redmond School Board vacancy

The Redmond School District Board of Directors has selected Shawn Hartfield of Redmond to the district’s five-member governing board.

A total of seven individuals were interviewed for the board vacancy during two separateboard meetings held at the district office.

Candidates Karina Smith, Drew Roberts, Michael Baumgartner, Lavon Medlock, Shawn Hartfield, Janet Irick and Wayne Yeatman were each interviewed for 45 minutes. All interview questions were identical and weighted scores were assigned to each candidate’s response. The candidate with the highest weighted score was selected.

Shawn Hartfield will be sworn in during the board meeting scheduled for October 28.

Hartfield and her husband own Buckstop Truckware, Inc. based in Prineville. She holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University and a master’s degree in management from St. Mary’s College. Hartfield replaces the position vacated by Rhonda Etnire, who resigned from the board on August 5, 2015. She will serve from October 28, 2015 through June 30, 2017.

The Redmond School District Board of Directors serve overlapping four-year terms as non-salaried trustees of the school district. As elected officials, the board is responsible for the scope, depth and quality of education and is the official policy-making body of the school district.
