Mid Oregon Credit Union honored for ‘One Class at a Time’

The Northwest Credit Union Association presented a Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award to Mid Oregon Credit Union at its annual Amplify Convention Awards Banquet Thursday night .
Mid Oregon Credit Union is actively involved in making their community better by helping raise funds for various community organizations. Currently, they are helping gather donations to help victims of the wildfires that plagued Oregon this summer.
One program was singled out in the award presentation. After seeing school budgets continue to be cut, Mid Oregon’s staff revamped their mini-grant program so they could better support teachers in their educational goals. The credit union quintupled the size of the mini-grants they had been offering, giving grants of $500 to 10 teachers through the One Class at a Time program, a collaboration with NewsChannel 21.
Mini-grant winners were chosen through a competitive application process that focused on innovative ideas and sustainable projects that would provide ongoing benefits to students.
The credit union also offers financial literacy curriculum to K-12 teachers at no cost.
Dora Maxwell was an early leader of the credit union movement. This award is given to credit union s that significantly improve the lives of members and non-members through community outreach.
