Powell Butte man facing DUII charge in rollover crash

A 33-year-old Powell Butte man and two children escaped serious injury, but he was arrested on DUII and other charges Saturday after his pickup truck left the Powell Butte Highway and rolled on its side, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies and Crook County Fire and Rescue were dispatched around 4:45 p.m. to the reported crash on Powell Butte Highway near milepost 2, said Sgt. Bill Elliott.

Deputies found a 2007 Toyota Tacoma driven by Galen Rhine of Powell Butte had rolled onto its driver’s side and was leaning against a fence, Elliott said. Rhine and the two children were out of the pickup when deputies arrived and refused medical treatment.

An investigation determined that Rhine was driving south on the highway and lost control of the pickup, crossing the center line before it overturned as it left he road, the sergeant said.

Rhine was arrested on an outstanding Deschutes County Warrant, as well as DUII and recklessly endangering another person. He was taken to the Crook County Jail, but later released due to limited space, a jail officer said.

He noted that Saturday’s charges were misdemeanors, as was the hit-and-run allegation out of Deschutes County that involved backing into another vehicle in a parking lot.
