New Giving Tuesday offshoot: Oregonians Give

KTVZ

On December 1 , countless Oregonians will cap a weekend of Thanksgiving and holiday cheer by celebrating their favorite nonprofit organizations and contributing millions of dollars to worthy causes.

Marking its first year, #OregoniansGive is a statewide movement built on the message of #GivingTuesday. The daylong celebration of generosity will highlight the positive work underway by hundreds of Oregon-based organizations and encourage all citizens to play a role in developing a brighter future for our communities.

“The people of Oregon have a truly generous spirit,” said Agnes Zach, Executive Director, Willamette Valley Development Officers (WVDO). “#OregoniansGive lets us a shine a light on all of the amazing work that’s been done throughout the year by these groups. It also gives one final opportunity before the year comes to a close for individuals to make a positive impact on the causes and groups that they personally support.”

#OregoniansGive will include organizations from all corners of the state. To date, hundreds of nonprofits have signed on to take part in the day of giving. Most groups will raise funds throughout the day to support a specific end-of-year project or goal. Participating groups will also join in a variety of events and activities planned across Oregon and share their experiences across social media.

“#OregoniansGive actually started last year when we launched #PDXGives in Portland,” said Keith Daly, Development Director at Reading Results. “#GivingTuesday presented this beautiful rallying moment for nonprofits across the country. Building on that with a local movement added a really special, personal layer to our efforts. This year, we wanted to grow into something that was inclusive of all organizations across our wonderful state. That’s how #OregoniansGive was born.”
