La Pine woman arrested in DUII crash; 2 injured
A La Pine woman was arrested on DUII, reckless driving and assault charges after a crash into a tree early Tuesday on South Century Drive that sent two passengers to the hospital with serious injuries, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies responded shortly before 1:30 a.m. to the reported single-vehicle crash on South Century Drive near milepost 21, said Sgt. Jayson Janes.
The driver, Carla Bauer, 31, of La Pine, called 911 to report she’d crashed a 1991 Toyota SR5 pickup into a tree, Janes said. Arriving deputies found the pickup 10 to 15 feet off the roadway, crashed into a tree, with heavy front end damage and a large part of the tree still atop the truck.
The passengers, identified as Alicia Montano, 30, and Asa Crabtree, 20, both also of La Pine, had gotten out of the pickup on their own, and all three occupants were evaluated on scene by La Pine Rural Fire District paramedics.
Montano was flown by air ambulance to St. Charles Bend and Crabtree was taken there by ground ambulance, both with what Janes described as serious injuries.
Investigating deputies determined Bauer had been driving under the influence of intoxicants, Janes said. After being evaluated by medics, she was taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend, where she was lodged on charges of DUII (alcohol), reckless driving and two counts of third-degree assault.
A jail officer said she was booked into the jail around 4 a.m. and released around 5:40 a.m. to a responsible third party.
